Set amidst the subtropical landscape of Coconut Grove, this structurally expressive residence features expansive slabs of exposed concrete and an unexpected sawtooth glazing strategy. With poured-in-place concrete construction commonplace in South Florida, Strang took advantage of that approach to create the architectural identity for the house. Board-form treatments create a raw appearance which is complemented by the refined detailing of the glass walls. Once again, however, it is the generous overhangs and deeply shaded outdoor spaces that adapt the home to its climate while underscoring a tropical modern appearance.
The home is located on an inland lot which is densely planted with native and exotic vegetatin. The walls of glass afford panoramic views of the surrounding treescape from the bedrooms above. Below, an L-shaped pool wraps the living areas and covered terrace to provide the ambiance of a private oasis.
