Max Strang, founding principal of [STRANG] Architecture, has been elevated to the prestigious College of Fellows of The American Institute of Architects (AIA). The Fellowship program was developed to call attention to certain architects who have made a significant contribution to architecture and society and who have achieved a standard of excellence in the profession. Election to fellowship not only recognizes the achievements of architects as the individuals, but also their significant contribution to architecture and society on a national level.
The 2016 Jury of Fellows from the American Institute of Architecture (AIA) elevated 149 AIA members to its College of Fellows. Out of a total AIA membership of over 88,000 there are over 3,200 members distinguished with this honor.
The 2016 Fellows will be honored on May 20th at an investiture ceremony at the 2016 National AIA Convention in Philadelphia.

Of greatest influence was certainly Strang’s association with Gene Leedy. Strang was raised in a Leedy-designed home and later worked at Leedy’s Winter Haven office. Leedy provided Strang with a solid background in classic modernism.

[STRANG] Architecture’s very own Kampong Residence was the playground for the set of a Gucci photo shoot. Models and photographers worked fluidly amongst the lush vegetation and oversized elephant ears– the perfect tropical setting for a high-end clothing designer.

Robert McCarter recently visited [STRANG] and accompanied Max on a tour of the firm’s current and recently completed Florida projects. Robert will be writing the introduction for a forthcoming book subjecting the work of the firm. Max was a former student of Robert McCarter during his undergraduate studies at the University of Florida, where McCarter served as Director of the School of Architecture. McCarter is the author of Alvar Aalto (Phaidon, 2014), Carlo Scarpa (Phaidon, 2013), Wiel Arets: Autobiographical References (Birkhauser,2012), Understanding Architecture: A Primer on Architecture as Experience.
Mr.McCarter is the current Ruth and Norman Moore Professor of Architecture at the Washington University Sam Fox School of Design and Visual Arts.
[STRANG] and The Pinhead Institute (a Smithsonian affiliate) have teamed up and will hold classes to teach the general concepts of 3d-modeling and 3d-printing.
